MURDERDOLLS Frontman Responds To Ex-Guitarist's Criticism Of New Album

The "Max & Cherri" show conducted an interview with MURDERDOLLS frontman Wednesday 13 when the band played Kansas City, Missouri on October 6 as part of the "Halloween Hootenanny" tour with ROB ZOMBIE and ALICE COOPER. During the chat, Wednesday responded to comments made by former MURDERDOLLS member Acey Slade in a recent radio interview in which he said that the new MURDERDOLLS record "sounds like all the things that the band said that we weren't gonna be."

When asked about his departure from the MUDERDOLLS and why he isn't involved with the group anymore, Acey told "Zombilly's Horror Hour", "I wanna make sure that I answer this the right way.

"Let me first say that I am obviously very grateful that I played in the band, because who knows if we would even be talking right now if that wasn't the case? So I will always have some gratitude to Joey [Jordison, MURDERDOLLS guitarist and SLIPKNOT drummer] for that, just like I'll have some gratitude for Edsel [Dope, DOPE frontman] for being in DOPE or Casey [Chaos, AMEN vocalist] for being in AMEN; they've invited me into their homes.

"But that being said, we waited around a long time — myself, Eric [Griffin, bass] and the Ghoul [a.k.a. Ben Graves, drums] — we waited around a long time to do this record. And when Joey and Wednesday [13, MURDERDOLLS frontman] said that they wanted to do it by themselves, that was a bit of a... like, 'Really?! That's not what we discussed.' But, quite frankly, it's like, OK, well, it's been seven years. You can't hold somebody to something they said seven years ago. It's like, 'OK, cool.'

"I've gotta tell you — I don't like the new material. I think it sounds like all the things that the band said that we weren't gonna be.

"When I was in the band, it was, 'We don't drop-tune — we tune standard 'cause we're a rock band — it's all tongue-in-cheek, nothing's serious. And now it's drop-tuned, it's serious subject matter, and it's not something I wanted to be a part of. It's like, wow, we were supposed to be a fun band that pissed people off, not a pissed off band that is writing...

"I don't know... It sounds like DISTURBED to me. It sounds like DISTURBED with Rob Zombie vocals. That was the other thing, too. [Laughs] Everybody was, like, 'You guys are like ALICE COOPER meets ROB ZOMBIE,' and we weren't. And it seems like all the negative things that people thought about us before they heard us, the band has now become. I'm not interested in that. I have a lot more creativity than that. And those guys do, too. So I'm a little disappointed for them. But you know, hey.... whatever. I guess they're happy doing it, but it's not something that I would wanna be a part of.

"We started off as a very original band, and from what I see and what I hear now...

"And it's, like, weird, the whole Joey and Wednesday... They've got pictures of just Joey and Wednesday. I think it's pretty clear that they didn't want anyone else at the party; they want it to be an exclusive thing for them, I suppose."

Speaking to the "Max & Cherri" show, Wednesday 13 had the following to say regarding Acey's comments: "We wanted to get a fresh lineup with this record, and we didn't wanna use those guys again. And that was pretty much what it was, and we didn't wanna air any dirty laundry; I wasn't gonna say anything about him and his projects or anything... If he doesn't like the MURDERDOLLS...

"One thing that he said that was completely wrong was that we said, 'When we formed the band...' He wasn't even part of forming the band at all...

"Oh, well... It sounds like he's a little upset."

MURDERDOLLS' sophomore album, "Women And Children Last", sold 8,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 43 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on August 31 via Roadrunner Records, the CD was recorded at a studio in Hollywood Hills, California with producer Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD).
